Western Spirit is one of nearly 50 hand painted balloons illustrated by artist Charly Markert between the years 1979 and 1992. The balloon is a 1986 Aerostar S-60. Western Spirit was originally completely white with a sky blue cap before it was airbrushed with fabric dye. It was commissioned for the US West Telephone Company.
